Winter is one of the favorite seasons of some people. It keeps you comfortable and excited with so many holiday events and family gatherings. Thinking about the many delicious dishes has my mouth salivating. With the many scents hitting your nostril hairs, it was hard not to turn down seconds, thirds, or fourths. Now your fourth serving, you plain ole GREEDY! Sorry not sorry.
When the end of the year comes to a close is where the problems surface. Once the holiday season ends, it is common that most people begin to work extra hard to get healthy again. Due to the cold weather, most people do not go outside to exercise which makes them lazier and weaker. Moreover, it is also very difficult to find a good motivation to stay healthy and fit. All you want to do is curl up under a warm blanket and eat some hot soup with a movie going. Right!?
So, if you are worried about the laziness and depression in the winter season and are looking for ways that can help you stay healthy in the winter season, don’t worry I got you covered.
Let’s get started!!
Eat more green and orange vegetables
Your diet is the most important contribution that makes you healthy or unhealthy. First of all, you have to take care of your diet very specifically. You must make sure that you stick to dark green and orange vegetables and fruits because they give you lot of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and natural sugars. These fruits and vegetables include spinach, squash, carrots, oranges, kale, Swiss chard, etc. You may use these fruits and vegetables in your regular winter diet. A shade of other color vegetables and fruits are fine as well but green and orange tend to be catered to fall and winter seasons. Don’t forget to increase the citric fruits during the winter seasons to keep health in tiptop shape (lemon, key lime, oranges, kiwi).
Eat more Fiber
The next thing that is just as important as the color of your fruits and vegetables is the fiber content of your food. The fiber soluble is found in nuts, oats, and apples. It will help you to boost your immune system and to decrease inflammation. Moreover, it will keep you healthy by reducing the cholesterol levels in your body and by protecting you against diabetes and weight loss as well. Most people do not consider it too important but believe me, it is one of the most important mental and physical health tips specifically for the older population and those whose health is compromised. The fiber protects against weak digestive systems. During the winter seasons the digestive system should be in full force especially with the amount of food being consumed. Man or woman is not an animal, we do not hibernate!
Cook with spices
Spices are generally used in medicines because they help you to improve your immune system. You must try your best to use onions, garlic, ginger and cilantro because they not only add flavor to your dishes, but they also help to protect you from heart diseases and inflammation. This is because these spices act as powerful antioxidants.
Workout at home
In the winter seasons, working out is the last thing on peoples mind, especially in cold temperatures. Personally, I do not have to worry about that due to my sunshine location. It gets cold for a Floridian!
Back to our scheduled program. Instead of going outside which I am sure doesn’t even cross your mind, create some fun indoor exercises. After every meal see if you can touch your toes or bring your need to your chest. These specific exercises help move the food along the intestines. With the help of YouTube and Google, the information is literally at your fingertips. Look up some workouts and make your living room your miniature gym.
Keep your home warm
Cold can affect your health very adversely; so, you must try to keep your surroundings as warm as possible. You must heat your home to at least 18 degrees Celsius. Keep your windows closed. You can also use an electric blanket to keep your bed warm. Moreover, you must also make sure to eat at least one hot meal a day as it will keep you warm from the inside. Your drinks must also be hot and you should get rid of cold drinks. Another important thing is to wear warm clothes that will keep your body warm from the outside and by doing so, you will avoid being sick to a great extent.
